Groundwater Protection
Household Sewage Program
 | Regulates the design and
installation of all household sewage systems throughout the county. This program
provides the evaluations, inspections and permits that are necessary for the
installation of any household sewage system.

 | This department also provides inspections for lot development, existing
lot improvement and real estate septic evaluations.
 | Lot Splits - creating a new lot for
development by splitting or creating more than one smaller parcels from an
existing larger parcel. |
 | Real Estate Evaluations - Septic System
inspection for Real Estate Transactions (may also request Private Water
System inspection and water samples) |

Lot Improvement Inspection
- Inspection to
verify regulated distance from existing septic system when adding an
improvement to an existing lot (room addition, out building, garage). |

Private Water Systems Program
 | Regulates the installation and approval of
private water systems throughout the county. This program provides the
inspections, laboratory testing, and permits that are necessary for the
approval of a private water system.

 | Provides services for water testing for bacteria, inorganic/organic and
other constituents that may be present in a Private Water System. These
services are contracted out with MASI Labs in Dublin, Ohio. A courier
picks up water samples from CCHD on Tuesday mornings. Please call for
more information on testing and pricing.

 | The Ohio Administrative Code Section
3701-28 defines and regulates private water systems, requires minimum
standards for private water systems construction, materials, development,
repair and modifications. Private water systems include: wells,
hauled water storage tanks/cistern, springs and ponds (if used for drinking
water source). These regulations also authorize the issuance of permits,
the registration of private water systems contractors, and provide
penalties for violations.
